2020 ANNUAL TRAINING CONFERENCE CANCELLATION INFORMATION

Cancellation of the Sheriffs' Association of Texas
142nd Annual Training Conference & Expo
Important Information! July 9, 2020

Dear SAT Family and Friends,

As a decades-long tradition, we have held our Annual Training Conference & Expo. The conference is an invaluable time of camaraderie, fellowship, and learning for sheriffs, their families and staff, partner agencies, valued vendors, and others. So, on behalf of the Board of Directors, it is with great sadness that I inform you that we are cancelling the 142nd Annual Training Conference & Expo scheduled for July 25-28, 2020, at the Fort Worth Convention Center, because of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19).

It was a tough choice. But we decided that public safety and respect for others, including our partner agencies; vendors; and hotel, convention center, and restaurant staff, outweighed all other concerns. This choice is reflected in other decisions such as the Governor's Proclamation (June 11, 2020), which renewed his declaration that the novel coronavirus poses an imminent threat of disaster for all counties in Texas; his Executive Order GA-29 (July 2, 2020), which generally requires face masks in public; and his Proclamation (July 2, 2020), which prohibits many gatherings and groups of more than 10 people. The CDC still cautions that, "The best way to prevent illness is to avoid being exposed to this virus."

I know that I speak for the entire Board and all the Sheriffs when I say that we will miss the Conference this year. And we can't thank everyone enough for their support during these force majeure events.

Sincerely,
Sheriff Tom Maddox
Sabine County
President-SAT

FAQ's

Will SAT be issuing registration refunds to attendees?

SAT is offering the following options for processing your registration fee; and we request that you respond by August 10, 2020 via email to shelly@txsheriffs.org with your choice.  Please be patient and allow 30 days after your submission for completion of transaction.

Refund: Your registration fee will be refunded via the same method as your payment, i.e., if you paid by credit card, the card will be credited in the amount of your payment; if you paid by check, a check will be issued to the payor; etc. SAT will process refunds as quickly as possible.

Roll Over to 2021: Your registration fee will be rolled over to the 2021 Annual Training Conference & Expo at the 2020 rate. SAT will process that roll over when the 2021 registration opens, and you will receive a confirmation at that time.

Donation: Some registrants, exhibitors, and sponsors have advised SAT to keep their payments. This is a generosity that cannot be repaid except with the deepest gratitude.

Golf Tournament

Golf Tournament fees may either be refunded or donated.  Send your choice via email to julie@txsheriffs.org

What do I do about my hotel reservation?

SAT official conference hotels will automatically cancel reservations in our housing block.  SAT official hotels are the Omni Fort Worth, Fairfield Inn & Suites, and Hampton Inn Fort Worth. You do not need to contact the hotels directly if your reservations were made through SAT in our official block.

Reservations made outside the SAT block with any of our official hotels, or with any other hotels, or through a third party, like Expedia or Travelocity, are the responsibility of the attendee to cancel. If in doubt, please call the hotel directly to confirm your cancellation.

Will Training or any other events in the schedule be held virtually?

No virtual training is scheduled at this time as it would not qualify for credit under current TCOLE rules.

When and where will the 2021 Conference be held?

The 143rd Sheriffs' Association of Texas Conference will be held in San Antonio Sunday August 1-Wednesday August 4, 2021. More information will be available on our website in the next few months.

How will we make our hotel reservations for the 2021 Conference?

We will have the hotel reservation link for 2021 available on our website.  Active members will be notified when hotel reservations open.

Thank you for your understanding and we wish you all good health through these unprecedented times.
